He wants it so that you can "uncraft" an item. It's a very nive idea, however, it can be abused. Say you have a half-broken diamond pick. Normally, it would cost a diamond to repair it. However, with this, you could just "recycle" it, and than recraft it for free.
So, for me, it's a no. Nice idea though.
