YES YES YES
YOU'RE SCRAPPING THE DAMN RANK PURCHASE SYSTEM!
I've always disliked it. When I was a Guest, I got Citizen simply for having 21 hours of playtime... Of course, the new time limit should be 24 hours. I was thinking that Merchants could get colored nicknames, and Citizens could get simple nicknames?
I don't exactly like the term "Member," though... It sounds like something one would have to pay for, like a membership to a club. Maybe we could use [Dedicated]? Ah, but that doesn't exactly count as a rank, does it? You can't yell out, "YES! I'M FINALLY A DEDICATED!" It doesn't sound right. Military-based ranks would make us look like a server run by 12-year olds.
Oh! I know! Citizen-rank could become [Simpleton], and Merchant rank could become [Socialite]! (though, both those terms are kind of insulting to the users, so maybe they aren't the best of choices...)

“What passes for hip cynical transcendence of sentiment is really some kind of fear of being really human, since to be really human [...] is probably to be unavoidably sentimental and naïve and goo-prone and generally pathetic.” --David Foster Wallace, Infinite Jest
