Looking for ideas for new player ranks.
Post: #1
We'll be changing the Citizen and Merchant ranks soon so we need new names and they cannot be synonymous with their predecessor.

I'd like everyone to share their ideas in this thread. I'll gather them all and run a poll.

The rank permissions/commands won't be very different but I will be moving most of the considered to be privileged commands and abilities to the new rank that'll replace Merchant.

Ranks will no longer be purchased; players will be automatically promoted based on their playtime. AFK will have a much sooner kick time to make up for this, as well as the time before a player is put into AFK mode.

What is Citizen now will be a sort of beginner-member while Merchant's replacement will be full-member. But I don't want to use the title 'Member' because it's used everywhere, therefore rendered boring to me. We're not entirely sure how the two ranks will be different, so we still need some ideas there. Please share yours in this thread.

Any features from the plugins we have that you'd like to see in either of these ranks, please share them here. Additionally, please share any ideas you have for other plugins. There are many new Bukkit plugins every month and I'm sure there's some brilliant ones I'd want to be made aware of.

Thanks for reading.
I look forward to reading your ideas.

YES YES YES
YOU'RE SCRAPPING THE DAMN RANK PURCHASE SYSTEM!

I've always disliked it. When I was a Guest, I got Citizen simply for having 21 hours of playtime... Of course, the new time limit should be 24 hours. I was thinking that Merchants could get colored nicknames, and Citizens could get simple nicknames?
I don't exactly like the term "Member," though... It sounds like something one would have to pay for, like a membership to a club. Maybe we could use [Dedicated]? Ah, but that doesn't exactly count as a rank, does it? You can't yell out, "YES! I'M FINALLY A DEDICATED!" It doesn't sound right. Military-based ranks would make us look like a server run by 12-year olds.

Oh! I know! Citizen-rank could become [Simpleton], and Merchant rank could become [Socialite]! (though, both those terms are kind of insulting to the users, so maybe they aren't the best of choices...)

I agree with all that.

Simpleton isn't so bad. Socialite sounds like a virus.

I do want to do something different with nick names... either way, I will soon crack down on staff about the constant nick name changes. Problem is it's difficult to really monitor who had theirs changed last and stuff.

Perhaps a ServerSign which temporarily gives them the permission to nick themselves and has a cooldown of 2 weeks or something.. although I don't think ServerSigns can practically have a 2 week cooldown. The cool part about it is it can either be a global cooldown (all players) or it can simply be for the individual player while the sign can be used by multiple players at anytime.

So, I've always wanted to implement this rank.

Denizen - resident

Same as Citizen just cooler name.

and I can't honestly pull the name for the next tier rank.

Citizen should be changed to Resident, and Merchant could be... something. I got nothing.

That is pretty much synonymous.

I think "Backpacker" would be a nice replacement for Citizen, not truly apart of our communist community yet still within it.

Something for Merchant? "Comrade", maybe for something like 100 hours, to show a fair bit of dedication.

Personally I'd like to see some sort of custom title for those people with 500-750 hours of play time, maybe from a set list of custom titles.

Peanut stays.
It's not changing.
If you think it should change you can go eat a peanut and choke on it.
